Unakite

Meaning

Unakite is a type of granite that contains bits of pink orthoclase feldspar, green epidote, and quartz crystals. It is also referred to as unakite jasper.

It has a distinctive, mottled appearance of green and pink, and when polished, it takes on a lovely, multicolored appearance that makes for very eye-catching jewelry.

The stone's name, unakite, derives from the Unakas Mountains in the United States' Appalachian Mountains, where it was first found.

It has been found all over North America, as well as in South Africa, Brazil, and China, but never in the same quantities as in the Unakas mountains, where it appears to have been caught up in glacial drifts during the Ice Age.
